"Tour de Berlin Feminin" premieres on July 2 - International professional women's cycling race in the heart of Berlin:
Tour de Berlin Feminin - Berlin, June 2, 2023: After an interruption of more than 30 years, the Berlin Cycling Association (BRV) is reviving the "Tour de Berlin Feminin" and organizing an international professional cycling race for women on Sunday, July 2. Alongside the new "Women's Cycling Grand Prix" in Stuttgart on July 16, the premiere of the "Tour de Berlin Feminin" is the only international one-day race for women in Germany on the cycling world federation's calendar. The premiere will be held as part of the Berlin Everyman and Everywoman event "GENERALI VeloCity Berlin". The last five kilometers of the route run along the most important sights in the heart of the sports metropolis of Berlin.
"The Berlin Cycling Federation, together with the Berlin Senate Department for the Interior and Sport, has set itself the goal of promoting international women's cycling. The long-term plan is to establish an international women's tour under the name 'Tour de Berlin Feminin' in Berlin over four to five stages. The race on July 2 is to serve as the basis for the development of the women's tour," says Claudiu Ciurea, President of the Berlin Cycling Association (BRV).
The premiere of the "Tour de Berlin Feminin" is registered in the UCI category 1.2 and will cover a distance of approx. 100 kilometers. The advertised prize money of around 15,000 euros is on a par with comparable men's races. The day before, on July 1, a 70-kilometer circuit race will be held. "This is a long-term project for Berlin cycling that we definitely want to launch this year. We can already present an attractive field of female starters at the premiere," says Philipp Tutzschke, Sports Director of the "Tour de Berlin Feminin". The Israel Premier TechRoland team has registered from the World Tour, while the renowned Parkhotel Valkenburg team (Netherlands) is one of the Continental teams,
BePink (Italy) and the new German team MAXX Solar Rose Women Racing from Erfurt.
