Road tires Tubular tires Competition Tubular Continental
The Continental Competition is a robust all-rounder that is used for all major bike races worldwide.
Agile and fast, the Competition adapts to all road conditions.
It's all in the mix.
This tire revolutionized the cycling scene with its unique tread compound, which is only produced in Germany. Thanks to the legendary BlackChili compound, the eternal question of whether grip or rolling resistance has been answered in the long term.
Regular test victories prove the measurable and tangible benefits for drivers in the laboratory and on the road. The latest polymers as well as specially developed soot particles and fillers guarantee unique performance.
The mixture
The crucial question in cycling. The running properties of a tire's rubber compound are largely determined by three interacting factors - static friction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma: If one of these factors is improved, at least one other factor deteriorates in return. A tire with maximum grip wears more quickly and rolls more slowly. If you make the tire faster or more durable, its grip is reduced.
With the BlackChili Compound, a tread compound that is always based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research, Continental has provided the cycling scene with a lasting answer. Depending on the area of use of a tire, Continental adjusts the compound recipe specifically - whether for road bikes or mountain bikes, for time trials or downhill.
For BlackChili, Continental refines special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create particularly high-performance tread compounds. Continental then adds carbon black particles to these compounds, which in turn are optimized in terms of shape and surface properties. The complex compound technology is so sensitive that tires with BlackChili Compound are produced exclusively in Korbach.

The reference in puncture protection
The Competition from Continental has a special puncture protection consisting of Vectran. Vectran is a high-tech fiber developed by Continental, which is synthetically produced based on a model from nature. Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer like spider silk. Vectran is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and processed into a multi-fiber yarn. Vectran has an enormous tensile strength at the lowest weight. It therefore has the perfect properties to be used as a puncture protection insert in a Continental top tire. A Vectran breaker protects more effectively against cuts than comparable nylon breakers and is nevertheless lighter and more flexible. The rolling resistance is not affected and the tire can develop its full potential.
On request, we can mount the tires on the wheelset or enclose them separately. Just ask us.
Technical note: Tubular tires can only be mounted on rims designed for this purpose (tubular). The tires are glued to the rim using tire cement or rim tape.
