The dilemma: If one of these factors is improved, at least one other factor deteriorates in return. A tire with maximum grip wears more quickly and rolls more slowly. If you make the tire faster or more durable, its grip is reduced.

With its BlackChili Compound, a tread compound that is always based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research, Continental provides the cycling scene with a lasting answer. Depending on the area of use of a tire, Continental adjusts the compound recipe specifically - whether for road bikes or mountain bikes, for time trials or downhill.

For BlackChili, Continental refines special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create particularly high-performance tread compounds. Carbon black particles are then added to these compounds, which in turn are optimized in terms of shape and surface properties. The complex compound technology is so sensitive that tires with BlackChili Compound are produced exclusively in Korbach.
